About Universal Underwriters

You don't want to have to educate your insurance company about your business. In an industry filled with generalists, Universal Underwriters has a simple clarity of purpose. We specialize in the business that we know best.

In 1922, a group of Universal Motor Car Company (Ford) dealers was searching for a way to insure their rapidly growing businesses. Fire insurance was expensive and qualified professional insurance carriers were hard to find for the young industry.

So, the group formed a reciprocal insurance company and called it Universal Underwriters. Through the years, Universal Underwriters expanded its offerings, not only to serve vehicle dealers, but the entire automotive aftermarket.

In 1982, Universal Underwriters Group and its member companies became part of Zurich Financial Services. Universal Underwriters operates as an autonomous company as part of Zurich North America.
